About Our Limited Edition Dials

The Great Wave off Kanagawa (神奈川沖浪裏, Kanagawa-oki nami ura) is an iconic woodblock print by Katsushika Hokusai (葛飾北斎), circa 1829 to 1833 in the late Edo period. To date, this remains as Hokusai's most famous piece of work and has been one of the most recognisable works of Japanese Art in the world.

Given the rich history and origin of Hokusai and SEIKO, this is a perfectly paired appreciation of art and horology.

Our first introduction of The Great Wave off Kanagawa Dial was dated back in 4th December 2018. They were highly popular and was completely sold out within a month or so during pre-order stage. It been about 6 months since then. During this period, we spent tons of effort in research and development and we are ready to once again bring back The Great Wave off Kanagawa Dial in a brand new form!!

Introducing a novel approach to dial making - Pushing the limits of dial making technology. By having the luminous pigment layered beneath the artwork. This novel approach is invented by us and only we can do it. First of its kind and the only one of its kind in the watch industry.

Firstly, the base of the dial starts off with a white based coat. Secondly, 100% Swiss Super-LumiNova BGW9 is generously multilayered onto the white base dial. Thirdly, The Great Wave off Kanagawa artwork is industrially printed onto a special crystal clear film. This film even with printed artwork still adequately allows UV to charge the luminous pigment and also allows the luminous pigment light to fluorescence through. Next, the artwork film is bond onto the luminous pigment directly using proprietary adhesive. All these into a 0.5mm dial thickness. Lastly, applied indices are punched onto the dial. These tedious production stages are conducted in three different industrial production plants.

All of these efforts resulted in a unique and one of a kind dial in the world. A high definition clarity of The Great Wave off Kanagawa in the day and a luminous piece of artwork in the night. This dial has a semi-glossy and grainy 3D texture that highlights the beauty of The Great Wave off Kanagawa artwork in an unprecedented premium quality. Finished off with beveled mirror polished silver hour indices.

As this being our first unique manufacturing masterpiece, we are increasing the quantity. Nonetheless, it will still remain a limited edition run.

Great quality and service

Quality of this dial was amazing, made this watch for my girlfriend and we both couldn't believe how well it turned out. The back illumination at night is absolutely stunning. The Chapter ring and hand set also came from Lucius Atelier and were just as exceptional as the dial was. Will definitely recommend and likely buy more parts in the future.
I will say I initially didn't head the warning on the site about the chapter ring.. buy the chapter ring here on this site as the original I planned on using from my ISL-20 definitely did not fit. Not an issue with the sell, just a time saver if you get them all at once like they say.

Yes, that title sounds a bit off, but it’s true! My wife had a Seiko Presage which literally came unglued (e.g., indicies falling off, etc.). I’m replacing the dial with this beauty and it is gorgeous! My wife is particularly pleased with the beautiful full dial lume. The “Great” Mod

I told myself if I ever modified a watch I would want The Great Wave. I searched online for the best dial and after filtering through less than perfect offerings I found Lucius Ateliers iteration. At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about the orange peel texture, but it’s negligible and is beautiful once the crystal is pressed in. The BGW9 is breathtaking and can’t wait to show it off. I went for a classy theme and continued the Japanese theme by selecting kunai hands. Had the day date option been available I would installed a kanji date wheel. Thank you Lucius for being a part of first modification journey. God bless!

Great Quality

I purchased the great wave dial a few moths ago and I was finally able to get the rest of the parts for my build. The dial is gorgeous, it has a nice textured finish to it and it pairs really well with lighter brown straps and blue straps, the dial feet were easy to remove and sand down and I highly recommend getting this fun quirky dial!

Work of art and perfect communication

Ordered the dial and a set of hands. Ordered with free shipping, but changed it to Express due to risk of serious delay due to COVID-19. Very good and swift communication on that. Arrived superfast in Denmark (and with a smooth service from DHL in Denmark in regards to customs).

The dial is stunningly beatiful, and I hope my son will appreciate the watch I am putting together. Hands and the movement holder is also of stunning quality and appearence.
