SKX007 Mod Parts on the SRPD/SRPE: What Fits and What Doesn't

When Seiko retired the SKX line in 2019, the modding world held its breath. The replacement — the Seiko 5 Sports SRPD/SRPE series, known in the community as the "5KX" — looked like an SKX at arm's length, but nobody knew whether a decade of SKX007 mod parts had just become orphans. So we took both cases apart and measured.

The answer turned out to be better than anyone expected: the 5KX kept the SKX007's dial-side architecture almost exactly. Here is the part-by-part map — what carries over, what doesn't, and what to check before you order.

What the "5KX" Actually Is

In the last quarter of 2019, Seiko announced the successors to the discontinued SKX007, SKX009, and SKX011: the SRPD/SRPE series, released under the Seiko 5 Sports line . The community shorthand "5KX" stuck immediately — a Seiko 5 wearing SKX clothes.

SKX007 vs SRPD/SRPE: What Changed

The 5KX is not a re-badged SKX — Seiko changed real things, and two of them matter in the water:

The movement upgrade runs in the 5KX's favour — the 4R36 hacks and hand-winds, which the 7S26 never did. The water rating runs the other way: the SKX was a certified ISO 6425 dive tool at 200m; the 5KX is a 100m sports watch with a push/pull crown. Both take the same mod parts where it counts, but they are different watches in the water.

The Part-by-Part Compatibility Map

This is the question that mattered in 2019 and still decides orders today. Parts designed for the SKX007 (case reference 7S26-0020) against the rotatable-bezel 5KX case (4R36-07G0):

Six of the ten most-modded parts carry straight over — and they are the six that define a build. The bezel, insert, chapter ring, crystal, dial, and hands all share exact fitting dimensions between the two families. Whatever 5KX you picked, the visual identity of the watch is fully moddable with SKX007-pattern parts.

The Four Parts That Don't Carry Over

Crown. The SKX007 uses a screw-down crown and tube; the 5KX generation switched to push/pull. The two systems don't interchange — an SKX007 crown has nothing to thread into on an SRPD.

Spring bars. The 5KX drilling takes bars with slightly smaller ends, so SKX007 "fat" spring bars won't seat in an SRPD/SRPE case. Usefully, the asymmetry only runs one way: SRPD/SRPE bars, with their smaller ends, fit an SKX007 without complaint. Moving straps between the two? Carry the SRPD bars.

Both gaskets. The caseback gasket and the crystal gasket are sized to their own case. Reuse the correct gasket for the case in front of you — and grease it — or the water resistance in the table above is fiction.

Modding Your SRPD/SRPE: Where to Start

Because the 5KX keeps the SKX007's dial-side architecture, every SKX technique applies unchanged: the bezel and insert swap , the dial and hands swap , and the sapphire crystal upgrade . The 4R36 even makes the dial-side work slightly friendlier — it hacks, so setting hands against a stopped seconds hand is one less fight.
