Genuine Seiko NH36 automatic movement with day and date wheels aligned for cases with the crown at 4 o'clock. Same day+date platform as the standard NH36, but the calendar is positioned for a 4 o'clock crown case. Use this version only when your case has its crown at 4 o'clock.

The day and date wheels are aligned for cases with the crown at the 4 o'clock position. Fitting this in a standard 3 o'clock case will misalign the calendar, pick the standard NH36 for those.

When do I need the 4 o'clock crown NH36 instead of the standard one?

Use this 4 o'clock version only when your case has its crown at the 4 o'clock position. The NH36's day wheel is pre-aligned to the crown position, so a standard (3 o'clock) NH36 would show the day text skewed in a 4 o'clock case, and vice versa. Match the movement to your case's crown position.

Why does the NH36 come in 3 o'clock and 4 o'clock versions?

Because of the day wheel. Unlike a date disc, the day wheel is pre-aligned to a specific crown position so the day text reads upright in the window. We stock a 3 o'clock version and a 4 o'clock version — pick the one matching your case's crown position. (Date-only and no-date calibers don't have this constraint; they fit either crown.)

What's the difference between Regulated and Non-Regulated?

Regulated movements are tuned by a certified watchmaker to 0 to +8 seconds per day before they ship. Non-Regulated movements run at Seiko's factory-default accuracy of -20 to +40 seconds per day. It's the same movement either way — Regulated just buys you tighter timekeeping out of the box.

Is this a Type M or Type L movement, and does it matter?

This is a Type M movement. Type M and Type L are Seiko's two factory hand-fitting heights; Type L sits about 0.4mm taller. Ultra Thin Edition cases have tight hand-to-sapphire clearance, so they take Type M only. Always confirm Type M before fitting.

Can I return a movement if my mod doesn't work out?

Movements can't be returned once shipped. Given the DIY nature of modding and Seiko's trade practices, all movement sales are final. Every unit passes TMI quality control and is guaranteed fully functional on arrival — but the fitting itself is at your own risk, so this movement is recommended for experienced modders only.

NH34 vs NH35 vs NH36 vs NH38 vs NH70 — what is the actual difference?

They are the same movement — only the complication differs. Every one: 24 jewels, −20 to +40 sec/day, 21,600 vph, 41h power reserve, casing Ø29.36mm with the spacer.

All of them hack (the seconds hand stops while you set). On the NH38 and the NH70 family the crown has one click and it sets the time, so a no-date dial belongs on an NH38 — there is no empty date position to pull past.

Only the height differs: 7.59mm installed, 7.99mm for the NH34. That extra 0.4mm of hand stack is why a GMT needs a case built for it. Otherwise the family is interchangeable — you are choosing a dial and a crown behaviour, not a different-sized engine.

I bought an NH36 from Lucius Atelier after buying from a different store and getting a movement with low amplitude. The one from Lucius Atelier is in great condition and running in my latest project. Great place to buy from!

Thank you for reaching out. Day and date alignment issues can definitely be a headache when you are in the middle of a build, but I can shed some light on exactly what is going on here.

Based on what you are describing, it sounds like you might be installing this movement into a watch case that has the crown located at the 3 o'clock position. The specific movement you purchased is engineered exclusively for cases with a 4 o'clock crown. Because of how the day wheel is printed, it only aligns perfectly with the dial window when the entire movement is angled for that 4 o'clock crown setup. When it is rotated to fit a 3 o'clock case, the day text will unfortunately sit misaligned.

There is no simple adjustment to fix this alignment, as the text orientation is physically printed onto the disc. To correct it, the day wheel itself has to be replaced entirely. You would need to source a correct 3 o'clock day wheel from an original NH36 movement and swap it onto your current movement.
