A real GMT complication.
An independent 24-hour hand tracks a second time zone. Set the home/reference time on the 24-hour hand and read a second zone off the main hands, or the reverse. The affordable way into a modded GMT build.

Regulated or non-regulated.
Choose Regulated and a certified watchmaker tunes it to 0 to +8 seconds/day before it ships. Choose Non-Regulated for factory-default accuracy of -20 to +40 seconds/day per Seiko's spec. Same movement, your call on precision.

Hacking and hand-winding.
Both built in. The seconds hand stops when you pull the crown for precise time-setting, and you can manually wind it. The popular reason modders upgrade from older 7S26/7S36 calibers.

Ships with a dial washer.
Unique to the NH34: a dial washer comes installed to support the dial and keep it clear of the GMT gear train sitting on top of the movement. If it ever drops out, refit it in a 'U' orientation. Also includes a full-length threaded stem and a dummy stem with plastic crown.

Most NH movements fit either a 3 or 4 o'clock crown — the stem threads either way and the date disc isn't affected. The NH36 is the exception: its day wheel is pre-aligned for one crown position, so pick the standard (3 o'clock) or the 4 o'clock version to match your case. Does the NH34 give a true GMT, or just a 24-hour hand?

A true independent GMT. The NH34 drives a fourth, 24-hour hand you can set independently to track a second time zone. It's the only automatic GMT movement Seiko makes at this price, which is why it's the go-to for a modded travel watch.

What is the dial washer on the NH34 for?

The dial washer is unique to the NH34. It supports the dial and keeps it clear of the GMT gear train that sits on top of the movement. It comes pre-installed; if it ever drops out, refit it in a 'U' orientation before seating the dial.

Which cases and dials does the NH34 need?

The NH34 is supported right across the range. Ultra Thin Edition: Pilot 34, 1908 36 (steel and yellow gold) and 62GS 36. GS and Explorer: GS Diver 36, GS 39mm v2 and Explorer II 36. SKX013 range: SKX013 Watch Case 38, SKX013 Submariner 36 and SKX013 GS Diver 36 — each also available in DLC black. Pair it with a GMT or 24-hour dial cut for the NH34's wider 2.7mm centre hole, so the 24-hour pinion passes through and the hand clears.

The GS 36 v2 and GS Diver 36 can run an NH34 — the double-dome sapphire gives the 24-hour hand stack enough headroom. The catch is the second hand: too long and it touches the crystal, so plan a shorter second hand or use a second-hand cap.

What's the difference between Regulated and Non-Regulated?

Regulated movements are tuned by a certified watchmaker to 0 to +8 seconds per day before they ship. Non-Regulated movements run at Seiko's factory-default accuracy of -20 to +40 seconds per day. It's the same movement either way — Regulated just buys you tighter timekeeping out of the box.

Is this a Type M or Type L movement, and does it matter?

This is a Type M movement. Type M and Type L are Seiko's two factory hand-fitting heights; Type L sits about 0.4mm taller. Ultra Thin Edition cases have tight hand-to-sapphire clearance, so they take Type M only. Always confirm Type M before fitting.

Can I return a movement if my mod doesn't work out?

Movements can't be returned once shipped. Given the DIY nature of modding and Seiko's trade practices, all movement sales are final. Every unit passes TMI quality control and is guaranteed fully functional on arrival — but the fitting itself is at your own risk, so this movement is recommended for experienced modders only.

NH34 vs NH35 vs NH36 vs NH38 vs NH70 — what is the actual difference?

They are the same movement — only the complication differs. Every one: 24 jewels, −20 to +40 sec/day, 21,600 vph, 41h power reserve, casing Ø29.36mm with the spacer.

All of them hack (the seconds hand stops while you set). On the NH38 and the NH70 family the crown has one click and it sets the time, so a no-date dial belongs on an NH38 — there is no empty date position to pull past.

Only the height differs: 7.59mm installed, 7.99mm for the NH34. That extra 0.4mm of hand stack is why a GMT needs a case built for it. Otherwise the family is interchangeable — you are choosing a dial and a crown behaviour, not a different-sized engine.

This GMT automatic movement is highly praised by watch modders for its accuracy and ease of use. Customers said the regulated version is "within 1-3 seconds daily" with "peak performance." Most found it "easy to work with" for builds. However, one instance of failure after 1 week was reported. Overall, customers appreciate the quality and fast delivery.

I decided to buy the regulated movement and WOW is it accurate! I have been checking it with the online atomic clock and it is within 1-3 seconds (-) daily. That is peek performance from my point of view...

Movement failed after 1 week, have had to since replace the item, I don’t think this is the fault of the seller, because the rest of the order was remarkable as well as their service.

Pretty much the same as NH35. Simply if you know what to do, else it might represent a challenge.

In short, there are no known cases in the market that will fit NH34 for now. Simply because NH34 requires significantly more crystal clearance which most NH35/36/38 cases are not designed that way.

The best option is to wear a couple of months for GMT-ready cases, dials and 24H hands to be out before considering modding with NH34. Afterall, these are the 3 components that are required and none are available for now.
