All four share the GS design language — 316L steel, a double-domed sapphire pre-installed, 28.5mm dials, an SKX013 chapter ring, and a 20mm bracelet or strap. Thickness shown is with the solid caseback; a sapphire caseback adds 0.5–0.9mm. The GS 39mm and 62GS 36mm are built on our Ultra Thin architecture — and the GS 36mm v2 is the one case here that is not NH34 GMT-ready.

Heads up — what's in the box, and what's sold separately.

This case ships with the sapphire crystal pre-installed. The dial, hands, chapter ring and movement are chosen separately — build it to fit our full dial range .

Chapter ring. This case needs an SKX013 chapter ring to seat the dial correctly — it is mandatory and never included. It takes both normal and ultra thin chapter rings; the choice depends on your dial, not the case. If your dial has applied (raised) indices, pick an ultra thin chapter ring for clearance; a flat-printed dial works with either. Browse SKX013 chapter rings .

Crown. Screw-down, SKX-style — chosen separately. Browse SKX013 crowns .

  • The case ships with the sapphire crystal pressed in. You choose the rest below — every part is an Add dropdown on this page — and the caseback you select sets which movement family the case fits.

Five more parts make a complete watch, each a dropdown above, in the order you'd assemble them:

    1. Crown (required) — screw-down, SKX-style. Browse SKX013 crowns .
    2. Chapter ring (required — seats the dial) — SKX013-spec; without it the dial sits too low and the hands won't clear. Browse chapter rings .

    4. Hands — paired to your dial; most modders match lume colour across hands and markers. Browse hands .
    5. Movement — a Seiko NH, or a Swiss ETA2824/2893 or Sellita SW200/260/330 (pick the matching caseback above). Browse movements .

Building an NH34 GMT? Add a GMT 24H hand and a GMT / NH34-specific dial — the 24-hour hand is the one optional extra.

Optional extras (also dropdowns above): a 20mm bracelet or leather strap , and a Côtes de Genève decorated bridge + rotor — only visible through a sapphire caseback, and our bridges pair only with our rotors, so pick them together.

Questions, Answered

Everything worth knowing before you build.

Which movements fit the GS Diver Watch Case 36mm?

Five movement families in one case, chosen by the caseback: Seiko NH (NH34/35/36/38/72), Swiss ETA2824 and ETA2893, and Sellita SW200, SW260 and SW330. The matching spacer and caseback are supplied. It's NH34 GMT-ready, so a true GMT build is on the table. Dial, hands, an SKX013 chapter ring and a crown are chosen separately.

Which caseback should I choose for the GS Diver Watch Case 36mm?

The caseback matches your movement family (Seiko NH, Swiss ETA2824/2893, or Sellita SW200/260/330) and sets the back style; the matching spacer and caseback ship with it. Choose solid for the slimmest profile at 12.5mm, or the sapphire (exhibition) caseback at 13mm to show the movement. The case is rated 200m / 20 ATM.

Are the case and bracelet edges sharp, or are they rounded off?

They are rounded off — but they are still crisp, and we would rather say that than have you open the box expecting something softer. "Sharp" is genuinely subjective: a Rolex is sharp too, and where one person reads that as crisp and well-defined, another finds it catches. The bracelet clasp is the sharpest part of the whole package — that is the part to know about before you commit.

If a previous mod was painful to wear, it is worth working out what actually caused it: a poorly finished lug edge digging in is a different problem from a clasp catching on the back of your wrist. Email hello@luciusatelier.com and say which it was, and you will get an honest answer on whether ours will be better or much the same.

Do you customize cases? Can I have a case machined or finished to my own spec?

Cases ship exactly as listed — no custom machining, no changes to size, lug width or lug shape, no alternative finishes of an existing case, and no engraving (a local engraver or jeweller can engrave a finished part after purchase). What you can customize is the build: choose the case, dial, hands, chapter ring, bezel insert, crystal and bracelet you want and LA will assemble the finished watch for you. Bespoke design work — one-off dials, mockups or renders, designing a build to a brief — is not offered. For fully custom work, see the list of watch modification specialists.

Can I use an aftermarket bracelet on this case?

No — only Lucius Atelier bracelets fit.

A bracelet isn't like a strap. Straps and NATOs hang off plain spring bars, so any 20mm strap works here. A bracelet with solid end-links is a different thing: the end-link is a shaped piece of steel machined to sit flush against one specific case profile. Ours are cut to the Lucius Atelier case shapes — that's what makes them look built-in rather than bolted on.

That precision cuts both ways. An aftermarket or OEM Seiko bracelet was shaped to its own maker's case, not to ours, so it won't sit flush here. The reverse is equally true: our bracelets don't fit generic 20mm lugs or OEM Seiko cases.

Every bracelet in our collection fits this case — including discontinued ones. A bracelet leaving the catalogue only means we stopped making it, never that it stopped fitting. Browse the bracelet collection: https://luciusatelier.com/collections/bracelets

If you'd rather not use a bracelet, any 20mm strap or NATO fits this case.

Customers praised this 36mm watch case for its "outstanding quality" and "beautiful finishing" with mixed brushed and polished surfaces. Shoppers loved the "clean angles" and elegant design that "wears bigger than 36mm." Multiple customers noted excellent service and fast shipping. The only minor concern mentioned was thickness, though most found it added nice wrist presence.

  • Quality of the construction and finishing is very good and the price feels very justified
  • Quality is outstanding. The crystal is almost invisible. It wears a bit bigger than 36mm

Great experience and quality

This is a really delightful compact case! I love the subtle crown guards and the drilled lugs – I think it's a great mix of diver qualities while being classy and a bit sporty. It feels a little chunky, but I think that's down to the short lug-to-lug distance. I think it has nice wrist presence despite being small – and there's a good mix of finishes that dress it up without being too flashy. The quality is of the construction and finishing is very good and the price feels very justified for what you get. My previous watch build was in a case I found on an eBay shop and it was serviceable, but this one is a big step up in quality.
I also want to mention how impressed I am with the customer service. I emailed with a question about fitting the movement and Adriel responded very quickly with friendly, helpful information. It was such a pleasant experience. Shipping was also extremely fast.
I highly recommend this case – especially if you have a smaller wrist, like me – and Lucius Atelier in general. I'm looking forward to shopping with them again soon.

36mm GS style

This was my first purchase from Adriel and I was very impressed with the quality and finishing of the case. The angles are clean and the mixture of brushed and polished stainless is perfect. I've since purchased another case from Adriel and it met the same quality standards.

Beautiful GS case

This is my very first purchase from Adriel's store and I'm delighted. This GS case is truly magnificent. If I had to complain about anything, it would be its thickness.
This case will finally give new life to an old dial from the 70s. The gold chapter ring is a real bonus.

Very pleased with the watch. I’m not a modder but mods offer the chance to give me the exact watch that I want. I chose all the pieces and paid for assembly, and I’m very pleased with what I got. I’d love to buy another watch from you in the future.

GS diver; a great and original option.

This case was suggested by Adriel himself. If not I wouldn't have gone for it. Thankfully I follow his advise because the case is great.

Quality is, as always with LA, outstanding. The crystal is almost invisible. It wears a bit bigger than 36mm and I like that.

Loved the case and the result and now its my new favorite watch.

Great case.

I’d already built a watch with LA’s original 36mm GS case and I chose this version with crown guards for my first GMT build.

The cases share a family resemblance but the addition of crown guards gives the newer case a sportier feeling and a distinct personality. The case is well made, precisely machined and I love how the caseback tucks up right inside the case and almost disappears from view.

I also bought the matching bracelet which is a fantastic accompaniment to the case and a perfect fit.

A beautifully crafted watch case that was a dream to work with. The finished product looks amazing and the person who I put the watch together for is very very happy.

Can i get this made with a flat crystal instead?

Adriel from LuciusAtelier.com

Hi Brandon,

Thank you for reaching out and expressing interest in our mod parts!

The GS Diver Watch Case 36mm comes with its double-domed sapphire crystal pre-fitted as the standard configuration. I do not offer a flat-crystal option for this case.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I have a dial 1.1-1.2mm thick. Do you have any cases (38mm or below) which can accommodate this thicker dial? I was thinking of using nh35. I like the GS Diver Watch Case - 36mm. Thank you!

Adriel from LuciusAtelier.com

Hi Sam,

Thank you for reaching out and expressing interest in our mod parts!

Honest answer: no, and I want to be straight with you that this isn't really a case question at all. At 1.1–1.2mm you're at roughly triple the standard dial thickness of 0.40mm, and what runs out is the height above the dial, not the room inside the case. So no case, in any diameter, changes the outcome.

The reason is the hour hand. On an NH35 the hour hand sits lower than 1.2mm up the pinion. A dial that thick would stand taller than the point where the hour hand has to seat, which means the hour hand simply cannot be installed. It isn't a matter of tight clearance or a slightly thicker watch — there is no build at the end of it.

For reference, the ladder across my whole range is 0.40mm ideal, which is Seiko's own dial spec and what everything is designed around; 0.50mm still works if you accept about 0.1mm more overall height; and 0.60mm is the practical ceiling, where the hands start scraping and the caseback stops seating properly.

If that dial is built on a brass baseplate, which is usually what puts one over a millimetre, the route that works is having it re-made at around 0.40mm with the feet welded on directly instead of sitting on a plate.

The GS Diver 36mm is a lovely case to build in and will run an NH35 happily — it just needs a dial in that 0.4mm range.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

What are the dimensions of the crystal, and do I need to remove the bezel in order to replace it?

Adriel from LuciusAtelier.com

Hi Jack,

Thank you for expressing interest in our mod parts!

The crystal size is 29.5mm x 1.5mm x 3mm — this is also listed under the Specifications section on the product page, where you can find additional case details as well.

And no, you do not need to remove the bezel to replace the crystal — it can be done with the bezel in place.

Let me know if you need help with anything else!

Hi, Is it possible to swap bezel to pilot style? something like explorer case?

Adriel from LuciusAtelier.com

Hi Gyungho,

Thank you for expressing interest in our mod parts!

Unfortunately, the bezel on the GS Diver Watch Case – 36mm [NH34-Ready] is not interchangeable and cannot be swapped with a pilot-style bezel like the one on the Explorer case. The designs are case-specific and not cross-compatible.

Let me know if you have any other questions—I’d be happy to help!

Does the thickness measurement count the domed crystal? In other words, is the GS case the same thickness as the Explorer II except one has flat crystal and the other domed?

Adriel from LuciusAtelier.com

Hi Bradley,

Thanks for expressing interest in our mod parts!

Yes, the GS Diver Watch Case - 36mm [NH34-Ready] has the same thickness and diameter as the Explorer II Watch Case, but it comes with a domed crystal instead of a flat one.

Let me know if you have any other questions—I’m happy to assist!

What is the difference between the NH34, SW330 and 'All' sapphire case backs? I am toying with the idea of using a SW330 to get 28800bpm, but I may not. Can I get two case backs - one for each option? I don't want to compromise by getting a universal case back ideally.

Adriel from LuciusAtelier.com

Hello Paul!

Thanks for expressing interest in our mod parts!

>> What is the difference between the NH34, SW330 and 'All' sapphire case backs?
Fits All casebacks = all variants of casebacks. Different movement requires different caseback due to their thickness. Caseback sandwich and hold the movement in the case. Because ETA/SW have different thickness, they will require different caseback. While NHxx movements all have the same thickness, they use 1 standard caseback.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Cheers,
Adriel

I'm interested in using this case for a build with an integrated rubber strap that fits the lugs and case precisely. Will any strap made for a 36mm Rolex Explorer I fit this case as well? Thank you!

Adriel from LuciusAtelier.com

Hello Tyler!

Thanks for expressing interest in our mod parts!

>> Will any strap made for a 36mm Rolex Explorer I fit this case as well?
I believe there is no known rubber strap that will fit. The only options available are bracelet, nato or leather strap.

Hello, the SKX Slim Solid Caseback - Silver Mirror Polished, is it shareable with this case? And if it is, can it be used with the NH34

Adriel from LuciusAtelier.com

Hello Cesar!

Thanks for expressing interest in our mod parts!

>> the SKX Slim Solid Caseback - Silver Mirror Polished, is it shareable with this case?
No, it is not. SKX013-based CB is uniquely different from GSD36 CB. Different in the sense that SKX-based has gasket on the outside while GSD36 gasket is inside. Because of this structural design, SKX Slim CB is still thicker than the GSD36 CB.

Even if it fits, it does not make sense to use a thicker CB, such as SKX Slim CB, on a GSD36. It is only labelled "SKX slim" when compared in the context with skx013-based standard CB.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Cheers,
Adriel

Is it possible to place the chapter ring from the backside of the case or do I need to remove the crystal?

Adriel from LuciusAtelier.com

Hello Ferry!

Thanks for expressing interest in our mod parts!

>> Is it possible to place the chapter ring from the backside of the case or do I need to remove the crystal?
Yes, it goes in from the back of the case, by putting it on the dial. This is how original SKX013 mod goes about.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
