Explorer II, 36mm — Crown Guard, and GMT-Ready.

The Explorer II Watch Case 36mm is our first Explorer with a crown guard — a small, sporty addition that gives the 36mm case a more purposeful stance.

It’s GMT NH34-ready, and built to fit our SKX013 crowns and SKX013 chapter rings, opening up the full modding range. It also takes Swiss ETA and Sellita movements with the right spacer and caseback.

The case ships with a flat clear-AR sapphire pre-installed. Tested to 200m.

Sapphire pre-installed — the crystal press is done.
You’re not pressing a crystal or fighting AR coating. Pick a caseback for your movement family, add a crown, chapter ring, dial, hands and movement, and build.

36mm with a crown guard.
Diameter 36mm, lug-to-lug 43mm, 20mm lugs. The crown guard adds sporty character without inflating the footprint.

GMT NH34-ready.
Run the NH34 for a true GMT complication. A GMT-specific dial is required for the NH34 route — those are listed separately.

Five movement families.
NH34, NH35, NH36, NH38 and NH72, plus Swiss ETA2824, ETA2893 and Sellita SW200, SW260, SW330 — set by the caseback you choose. The matching spacer and caseback are supplied.

Which movements fit the Explorer II Watch Case 36mm?

Five movement families, set by the caseback you choose: Seiko NH34, NH35, NH36, NH38 and NH72, plus Swiss ETA2824 and ETA2893, and Sellita SW200, SW260 and SW330. The matching movement spacer and caseback ship with your selection. It is NH34 GMT-ready, so a true GMT build is on the table — that route needs an NH34-specific dial, chosen separately. Dial, hands, an SKX013 chapter ring and an SKX013 crown are selected separately.

Which caseback should I choose for the Explorer II Watch Case 36mm?

The caseback does two jobs: it matches your movement family (Seiko NH, Swiss ETA2824/2893, or Sellita SW200/260/330) and sets the back style. Choose solid for the slimmest profile at 11.6mm, or the sapphire (exhibition) caseback at 12.1mm to display the movement. Either keeps the case rated to 200m / 20 ATM, and the matching spacer and caseback ship with your pick.

Are the case and bracelet edges sharp, or are they rounded off?

They are rounded off — but they are still crisp, and we would rather say that than have you open the box expecting something softer. "Sharp" is genuinely subjective: a Rolex is sharp too, and where one person reads that as crisp and well-defined, another finds it catches. The bracelet clasp is the sharpest part of the whole package — that is the part to know about before you commit.

If a previous mod was painful to wear, it is worth working out what actually caused it: a poorly finished lug edge digging in is a different problem from a clasp catching on the back of your wrist. Email hello@luciusatelier.com and say which it was, and you will get an honest answer on whether ours will be better or much the same.

Do you customize cases? Can I have a case machined or finished to my own spec?

Cases ship exactly as listed — no custom machining, no changes to size, lug width or lug shape, no alternative finishes of an existing case, and no engraving (a local engraver or jeweller can engrave a finished part after purchase). What you can customize is the build: choose the case, dial, hands, chapter ring, bezel insert, crystal and bracelet you want and LA will assemble the finished watch for you. Bespoke design work — one-off dials, mockups or renders, designing a build to a brief — is not offered. For fully custom work, see the list of watch modification specialists.

Can I use an aftermarket bracelet on this case?

No — only Lucius Atelier bracelets fit.

A bracelet isn't like a strap. Straps and NATOs hang off plain spring bars, so any 20mm strap works here. A bracelet with solid end-links is a different thing: the end-link is a shaped piece of steel machined to sit flush against one specific case profile. Ours are cut to the Lucius Atelier case shapes — that's what makes them look built-in rather than bolted on.

That precision cuts both ways. An aftermarket or OEM Seiko bracelet was shaped to its own maker's case, not to ours, so it won't sit flush here. The reverse is equally true: our bracelets don't fit generic 20mm lugs or OEM Seiko cases.

Watch arrived in days fully assembled. Ordering was simple and the customer service was excellent. Great packaging. The assembly has been done brilliantly. Fits my 6.5in wrist perfectly. I am thrilled with it.
One thing to note: some screws in the bracelet are too tight for me to undo with my jewelers screwdrivers.

Yes, the bezel on the Explorer II 36mm case is removable. However, there are no alternative bezel options produced for this specific case, so there is no interchangeable replacement available.

Also, this case is designed around the NH34 platform and is not ETA compatible. At the moment, we do not stock 36mm cases that are ETA compatible.

Yes — if you make a note during checkout, I’ll be happy to swap the default solid caseback for the SKX Slim Solid Case Back – Silver Mirror Polish to help reduce the overall thickness.

Please just keep in mind that doing so will reduce the water resistance to approximately 100m, due to the slimmer profile.

For the ETA2824 version of the Explorer II Watch Case - 36mm, it only comes with a sapphire caseback—a solid caseback is not available.

Additionally, for the ETA2824 movement, an SKX013 chapter ring is mandatory for proper fitment.

As stated, yes. The option for markers or no markers CR. If you want to look like there is no CR, then opt for a clean CR. If you want to get creative, there are multiple colours and designs CR.
