SKX013 Mirror Polished Silver Chapter Ring — Ultra Thin

See It On A Watch

Ultra Thin Edition — our thinnest chapter ring.

Thinner than before. The OEM ring is 2mm wide; our standard SKX013 ring is 1mm; the Ultra Thin Edition takes it to 0.75mm — a 62.5% reduction. That extra clearance suits dials with indices sitting at 27mm or less, for a more discreet ring and a cleaner dial. A mirror polished silver replacement for the SKX013 plastic chapter ring.

Questions, Answered

Everything worth knowing before you build.

What is a chapter ring on a watch?

The chapter ring is the ring that sits between the dial edge and the case, carrying the minute and hour markings around the dial. On SEIKO's SKX models it's a plastic part from the factory; ours is machined brass with printed markings for a crisper, more finished look. Swapping it is one of the simplest cosmetic upgrades in a Seiko mod — a small part with a big effect on how sharp the dial side reads.

What is an SKX013 chapter ring and why does it matter?

A specific size and spec used by Seiko in the SKX013 (discontinued 2019). The LA smaller-case lineup all uses this same spec, which means dozens of chapter ring designs work across every smaller case in the catalogue.

Will this chapter ring fit my SKX013?

Yes — it's made for the SKX013 and also fits the SKX015, SKX017, all 7S26-0030 watch cases, and our own cases. Dimensions are customised over the OEM ring for greater clearance and a clean pairing with our dials.

How does the chapter ring stay aligned without the OEM's pin?

The SKX013's original plastic chapter ring has a protruding pin at its base to lock the hour and minute markers in line with the dial. Our ring does away with the pin — its uniform structure means alignment isn't affected in normal fitting. If you want it locked absolutely solid, a small amount of adhesive can be used to secure the ring's position.

Should I choose the normal or the ultra thin chapter ring?

The choice depends on your dial, not the caseboth sizes fit every Ultra Thin Edition case. If your dial has applied (raised) indices, the ultra thin chapter ring is the better choice because its slimmer profile gives the indices clearance instead of resting on top of them. If your dial is flat-printed (no applied markers), either size works. When in doubt, the ultra thin chapter ring is the safer default because it works with both dial types.

Do I need to remove the sapphire crystal to install the chapter ring?

No — and that's the whole point of us pre-installing the sapphire for you. The chapter ring sits on top of the dial inside the case, not under the crystal, so the crystal stays where it is throughout the build. (If you ever do need to remove the sapphire — for example, to replace it — that's a workshop job we handle for you, not an at-home step.)

This mirror polished silver chapter ring receives universal praise from customers for watch builds. Shoppers highlight the "great mirrored finish reflects light" and note it's "wide enough to work with larger dial faces." The ultra-thin design works perfectly with various cases, and customers appreciate the pristine condition upon arrival with "no smudges."

Love it

Thought I’d try something new by going with a polished chapter instead of a brushed and am very happy I did. The dial reflects beautifully of it and gives the watch more depth.

Exactly what I’ve been looking for

This is perfect for modders who want to use aftermarket or even other seiko dials from full size watches (007 fitment). Where the indices are spread out and would be hidden/hit by the OEM chapter ring. Best price that I’ve seen as well (the only other company selling a 013 specific chapter ring was charging $40+). The finishing and fitment is spot on.
Shipped international but came fast, got a personally written thank you as well. Great brand overall.

I had asked previously about the hand sizing clearance prior to buying, which can be seen in the questions tab.

Included are some before and after pictures, though it is a bit hard to see because the ring is polished very nicely.

Thank you Ian for the amazing review!! That's a stunning mod. Love the the top hat sapphire combo =D

Great quality and care!

I've purchased this and can't be more satisfied with the quality. Not many, if any, produces parts for modding the 0030 series, and this simple ring opens a lot of possibilities! Besides adding a couple of finger gloves for doing the job properly was a nice touch. With all probability will buy from here again

Thanks Alvaro! It's been a pleasure. I hope you have many great SKX013 modding adventure coming ahead. =)

Very nicely cut, polishing can be improved

I needed a polished chapter ring for a complete build I'm doing on an SKX013. It's really well cut, nice sharp edges, but the polishing can be improved. I noticed just a few rough spots here and there and there are also some faint horizontal lines running around the surface. Not sure if this is from the machining process or an indication that the ring was polished in only one direction. It was no big deal though as I just ended up polishing it a bit more with my Dremel.

Yep. You are actually right, it's machine polished in one direction. For our dials to fit SKX013, we had to reduce the width size of the CR by about half compared to SEIKO's stock plastic CR and still keep the CR angled like the original. To give you a perspective how tight the clearance, the CR is 1.0 mm width and 0.25 mm from touching our dial indices when installed. Any smaller, the CR will be too fragile to produce even though its 316L stainless stain. From an engineering point of view, these chapter rings were by no means easy to manufacture. It was a manufacturing feat! So the faint flaws do occur on occasion. Unfortunately, this is part and parcel of machining process. Of course to reach perfect finish, like what you did, each CR has to be hand polished. Prices of parts always astronomically increase with finishing. I did not opt for hand polished as with this option, each CR would probably cost est. $60 USD due to the intensive labour cost involve. I honestly think no ones going to buy a CR for a $60 USD. As always, thanks Theo for sharing your constructive feedback!
