The 39mm Explorer — Sapphire, Crown and Bracelet, Built to Finish a Build.

A classic Explorer that has stood the test of time — the 39mm Explorer Watch Case is an easy, satisfying way to finish a build. It comes complete with a clear-AR sapphire, a screw-down crown, and the option of a solid brushed Oyster bracelet.

The Oyster clasp includes micro-adjustment, so you can fine-tune the fit without adding or removing links. It also takes Swiss ETA and Sellita movements with the right spacer and caseback.

Designed to fit all our 28.5mm dials on the grey dial holding spacer — no chapter ring needed. Tested to 200m.

Which movements fit the Explorer Watch Case 39mm v2?

Seiko NH35, NH36 and NH38, plus Swiss ETA2824 and ETA2893, and Sellita SW200, SW260 and SW330 — set by the caseback you pick, with the matching spacer and caseback supplied. Dials seat on the grey dial holding spacer, so no chapter ring is needed. Dial, hands and movement are chosen separately.

Which caseback should I choose for the Explorer Watch Case 39mm v2?

The caseback matches your movement family (Seiko NH, Swiss ETA2824/2893, or Sellita SW200/260/330) and sets the back style; the matching spacer and caseback ship with it. Note that the solid caseback is made for the Seiko NH family only; the Swiss ETA and Sellita casebacks come as the sapphire (exhibition) back. Solid is the slimmest profile at 11.5mm; sapphire is 12mm. Either is rated to 200m / 20 ATM, so the sapphire back keeps the full water-resistance spec.

Are the case and bracelet edges sharp, or are they rounded off?

They are rounded off — but they are still crisp, and we would rather say that than have you open the box expecting something softer. "Sharp" is genuinely subjective: a Rolex is sharp too, and where one person reads that as crisp and well-defined, another finds it catches. The bracelet clasp is the sharpest part of the whole package — that is the part to know about before you commit.

If a previous mod was painful to wear, it is worth working out what actually caused it: a poorly finished lug edge digging in is a different problem from a clasp catching on the back of your wrist. Email hello@luciusatelier.com and say which it was, and you will get an honest answer on whether ours will be better or much the same.

Do you customize cases? Can I have a case machined or finished to my own spec?

Cases ship exactly as listed — no custom machining, no changes to size, lug width or lug shape, no alternative finishes of an existing case, and no engraving (a local engraver or jeweller can engrave a finished part after purchase). What you can customize is the build: choose the case, dial, hands, chapter ring, bezel insert, crystal and bracelet you want and LA will assemble the finished watch for you. Bespoke design work — one-off dials, mockups or renders, designing a build to a brief — is not offered. For fully custom work, see the list of watch modification specialists.

Explorer 39mm with SW210 hand wind movement

I wanted a hand wind watch with water resistance great enough to dive (I'll never go diving). The option for the sw200 movement worked perfectly with the sw210, very happy with how well this fit. Dial and hands are from Otto Frei (don't tell Lucius), compatibility with this case was far better than expected, tolerances were quite impressive. I've been building watches for roughly 8 years now, the quality of this case is as good as any I've handled previously. fit and finish is above expectations, I recommend this product.

My first build

This was my first build. Shipping was super fast and the case/bracelet even comes in its own nice packaging. The case and bracelet look and fit great on my 7 3/4” wrist. Bracelet is solid with nice tight fitting end links. Definitely what I was hoping for and I will definitely be but here again.

Can't find anything better for the price

Positive note: The case looks fantastic, the crystal is top quality and there's plenty of space to fit the movement comfortably having the caseback holding it in place.
Negative note: I personally found the rolex style clasp unusual (for a seiko built) and it's little hard to open it over the pressure point. Also, I had to shave 0.5mm off an end link to make it fit - yet is still better than any Strapcode/miltat.

All things considered, this is the best product you can find at this price. 100% worth it

Great Case!

Love this case. Very well made. Can't wait for more to come in stock. Wears great. NH36 movement fits slightly loose with the standard grey spacer, but not noticeable once fully cases.
