Sapphire sits second only to diamond on the Mohs scale — the everyday scratches that dull a stock crystal simply don't land. This one is cut 30mm for the Seiko 5 SNK: the single biggest clarity upgrade an SNK build can take.

The double dome curves on both faces — a low 0.8mm rise, 1.8mm through the centre — and reads with a warm, vintage character on the wrist. Take it with double-sided anti-reflective coating in blue, at least three layers per face, or run it uncoated.

Seats with a crystal press — there's no safe press-free way to seat a sapphire; if you don't own a press, a watchmaker or mod specialist fits it in minutes. A crystal gasket is required but not included — the crystal seats with the gasket already in your case. Gaskets are cut to match a specific case, and ours are cut for our cases, so one from us would not seal a stock Seiko case correctly. If the gasket in your case is hardened, cracked or deformed, fit a replacement matched to your case reference — any Seiko parts supplier stocks them. (New gaskets come fitted only with our watch cases.)

Are sapphire crystals really scratch-proof?

Effectively, yes, for daily wear. Sapphire ranks second only to diamond on the Mohs hardness scale, so keys, desk edges and door frames simply don't leave a mark. Only diamond — or another material approaching its hardness — can scratch it. That's why every crystal we make is sapphire rather than mineral glass.

Flat or double domed — which sapphire should I choose?

Flat is the low-profile, original-style look. Double domed curves on both the top and the underside — it catches light differently across the dial and gives the watch a warmer, vintage character. Neither is tougher than the other; both are sapphire. It's a styling call.

What's the difference between single-sided and double-sided AR coating?

It's which faces carry the anti-reflective layers. Single-sided AR is applied to the underside only; double-sided coats both the topside and underside for maximum clarity — noticeably fewer reflections between you and the dial. Every coated face carries at least three AR layers. Some of our crystals also come uncoated, if you prefer the bare sapphire look.

Blue or clear AR coating — what's the difference?

The colour of the reflection, not the clarity. Clear AR is colourless — reflections just disappear. Blue AR kills glare the same way but flashes a subtle blue at an angle, with a slightly brown tint face-on (a standard characteristic of all blue AR). Both do the same optical job; pick the look you prefer.

Which Seiko models does the 30mm double domed crystal fit?

It's sized for the Seiko 5 SNK family — cases such as the SNK369, SNK789 and SNKL23. The product page carries the full model list, so check yours there before ordering.

Will an SKX007 crystal fit an SKX013?

No — the diameters are different, so they aren't interchangeable. The SKX007 family (7S26-0020, plus SRPD/SRPE) takes a 31.5mm crystal, the SKX013 family (7S26-0030) takes 28mm, and Seiko 5 SNK models take 30mm. Match the crystal to your case and check the Fit Models line in the Specs before ordering.

Do I need a crystal press to install a sapphire crystal?

Yes. A crystal press seats the sapphire straight and evenly — there's no reliable press-free method that doesn't risk cracking the crystal or breaking the water seal. If you don't own a press, a watchmaker or watch-mod specialist can fit it in minutes.

Do sapphire crystals come with a gasket?

No — the crystal ships on its own, with no gasket in the box. You do need a crystal gasket to install it, but in practice that's already sorted: the crystal seats with the gasket that's in your case, so you simply reuse the existing one. We don't sell gaskets separately because a gasket is cut to match one specific case — ours are cut for Lucius Atelier cases, so a gasket from us would not seal a stock Seiko case correctly. New gaskets come fitted only with our watch cases. If the gasket in your case is hardened, cracked or deformed, replace it with one matched to your case reference — any Seiko parts supplier stocks them.

Perfect Crystal to Complement 1016 Mod

First time purchasing a crystal with coloured AR. Wasn't sure how it would turn out, but it ended up working perfectly with an Explorer 1016-style SNK mod. Was a little confused about the blue AR making things look a little brown, but I think it actually does give the dial a more vintage vibe. Quality of the crystal is superb and the amount of blue tint is well done too. Overall, very happy with this purchase and will be sourcing more parts from this site in the future!

I just swapped the Swiss made Lucius Atelier double domed single AR coating crystal onto my SNK809 and I must say this watch has been transformed into a watch that ismuch classier. It has made this watch into something that looks and feels more like a $400 watch. The AR coating is really well done which brings out the dial's details much more vs the stock crystal. It's not gaudy like some other double domed crystals. Finally, I appreciate the single sided AR coating which should dramatically increase longevity of this mod. Well done!

Lucius Atelier got it right with this low dome, clear AR sapphire crystal. The crystal and AR coatings are high quality. Most of the nicer watches that I've seen or owned that have domed crystals are using *low domes. Although the low domes appears subtle from the wearer's perspective while looking down at the watch, a low dome is actually very noticeable from a normal viewer's distance & perspective. It appears classier, is more versatile, and wears much nicer than the exaggerated high domes that have become popular among modders. Even when paired with diver's style dials that have large markers and hands, high domes just appear exaggerated and a bit over the top on the wrist, IMO. A well known online sapphire crystal retailer has been getting rid of their low domes in favor of very high domes of about 2mm or more (even though their specs incorrectly show lower dome heights). I'm glad Lucius Atelier knows what they are doing and have not given in to that trend. I have made two purchases of this item and I hope they continue to carry this low dome crystal with clear AR, as I'm sure I'll be purchasing more in the future.

I wish Lucius Atelier would produce a 29mm version of this crystal with clear AR as well. I would purchase 4-5 right away, as no one seems to be selling this. All the other crystal retailers I've seen are selling 29mm high domes with blue or no AR (again one particularly well known seller lists 29mm low domes when they have actually been replaced by ~2mm domes).

I have to be straight with you: our 30mm Double Domed Sapphire Crystal is sized specifically for the Seiko 5 SNK, where 30mm is the correct diameter. It isn't a universal crystal, so it won't fit a Christopher Ward Trident Pro 300 — that's a 40mm watch with its own crystal specification, and I don't make one sized for it. Your best bet is to reach out to Christopher Ward directly, as this isn't something we're able to help with.
