Terra Explorer Dial v2 - Enamel Black

Swiss Lume

LIMITED EDITION · 200 pieces only. Once this run sells out, this dial is retired for good — never remade.

Terra Explorer Dial v2. Applied Indices. Glossy Black Enamel. Minute Track.

The explorer dial, brought back and refined. A glossy black enamel face with a 3, 6 and 9 numeral layout set against the outer indices — the configuration that makes a watch face read wider and more open than the case around it.

The numerals and the hour indices are applied in beveled, mirror-polished silver — raised metal, not flat print — and filled with Swiss Super-LumiNova, so the whole face lights up, not just the markers. The relief is what gives the dial its depth in daylight and its glow at night.

A printed minute track runs the outer edge in white — the detail that gives the dial its tool-watch precision and a little extra texture against the glossy black enamel.

Your lume, your call. Choose 100% Swiss Super-LumiNova® BGW9 Grade A for a cool ice-blue glow, or C3 Grade X1 for a vivid green one — both the highest grade made, both charging fast and glowing up to eight hours.

Built for the explorer case.
This dial was drawn around the classic explorer silhouette. As a standard 28.5mm dial it fits any case built for that size, but its natural home is our Explorer Watch Case — 39mm .

Explorer 3-6-9 layout.
The 3, 6 and 9 numerals against the outer indices compose a visually wider, more open face — the hallmark of an explorer dial.

Applied, beveled, lumed.
The indices and numerals are raised, mirror-polished silver — not flat print — and filled with Swiss Super-LumiNova so they glow at night.

Your choice of Swiss lume.
BGW9 Grade A glows cool blue; C3 Grade X1 glows vivid green. Both are top-grade, selected at checkout.

Printed minute track.
The outer minute track in white adds tool-watch precision and a touch more texture to the black enamel face.

Heads up — a dial is one part of the build

Hands. A dial needs a matching set of hands to tell time. For this dial we recommend our Mercedes Hands v2 — Polished Silver — the classic explorer pairing, and they take the same BGW9 or C3 Swiss lume so you can match the glow across hands and dial.

Chapter ring. This dial already carries its own printed minute track, so it pairs best with a clean chapter ring — one without minute markers of its own, so the two don't compete.

Movement. This is a time-only dial face — no date or day window. Any standard NH-type movement works (NH35, NH36 and the calibres listed under Specs); if you fit a date movement, the date simply won't show through the dial. See the FAQ for the full list.

Questions, Answered

Everything worth knowing before you build.

Minute track or no minute track — which variant should I pick?

It's purely aesthetic — both share the same applied beveled mirror-silver indices, 3-6-9 numerals, and Swiss lume choice. The Markers variant has a printed minute track around the outer edge, which reads sportier and helps with precise minute reading. The No-Markers variant drops the track for a cleaner, more minimal face that lets the indices and the enamel carry the dial. Same fit, same movements, same lume options either way.

Are the markers applied or printed?

Applied. The hour markers are applied (raised) indices — raised metal on the dial surface, not flat print. The relief is what gives the face its depth and light play as the wrist moves.

BGW9 or C3 lume — what's the difference?

Both are premium-grade Swiss Super-LumiNova — the difference is the glow.

| Lume | By day | At night |
|---|---|---|
| **BGW9 Grade A** | white | cool ice-blue — the modern, crisp choice |
| **C3 Grade X1** | pale green | vivid green — the classic tool-watch glow |

Both charge fast and glow up to eight hours. Pick by the look you want, and match it to your hands for a cohesive build.

Which movement does this dial need?

This is a no-date dial, so a no-date caliber is cleanest — the NH38 (the NH70, NH71 and NH72 fit too). It also runs on a date caliber like the NH35 or NH36, and on the wider Seiko/TMI family (7S26, 7S36, 4R15, 4R35, 6R15, NE15, NH25, NH26); the date wheel just turns unseen behind the blank dial. In fact, many modders fit an NH35 or NH36 on purpose to future-proof the build — that way they can later swap to a date or day-date dial without changing the movement. One thing to expect if you do: the crown keeps its date-setting position, so you'll feel it click into that detent when you pull the crown partway out — but with no date window, nothing changes on the dial face.

Will this dial fit my case?

Yes, almost certainly. This is a standard Seiko mod dial — 28.5mm in diameter and 0.4mm thick, the industry-standard size — so it fits most, if not all, Seiko cases. Where a dial is shown with a particular case, that's an aesthetic pairing, not a fitment requirement. If you're unsure, the surest check is to remove your current dial and measure it with a vernier caliper.

Why does the dial have four legs?

The dial ships with four legs so it fits two different crown positions. Seiko movements come in 3 o'clock and 4 o'clock crown layouts, and the dial feet sit in different places for each. Clip off the two legs that don't match your crown position — two stay, two go.

How do I fit this to a 3 or 4 o'clock crown movement?

Remove the two legs that don't match your movement's crown position by clipping or gently twisting them off, then seat the dial as normal — two legs stay, two go. Alternatively, set the movement's crown to the 3 o'clock or 4 o'clock position, superimpose the dial on top, and see how the feet line up — whichever way it aligns, note which two legs need cutting and proceed from there. See the How To Mod tab for the full fitting walkthrough.

Does this dial work with a normal or an ultra thin chapter ring?

Both our normal and ultra thin chapter rings fit this dial. Where a dial has applied (raised) indices, they sit within the clearance of either ring — so the choice is purely about looks: the ultra thin chapter ring sits low and discreet, while the normal sits a little more pronounced. Pick whichever suits your style.

Can you remove the logo from the dial?

Our dials carry the logo on an adhesive backing rather than a stamped or engraved mark, so it isn't baked into the surface — but removing one cleanly isn't realistic. The adhesive doesn't release without scratching or marking the dial, and the risk is greatest on enamel. We sell our dials as-is and don't modify them. You're welcome to remove it yourself or have a modding specialist do it, just knowing the face will likely pick up some cosmetic marks.

Is this a limited edition / will it be restocked?

Yes, it's a limited edition, and it won't be restocked. Once the run sells out it's retired for good. The edition size is shown on the product page.

Are hands included with this dial?

No — dials and hands are sold separately. This listing is for the dial only; choose a matching handset to complete the build. If your dial is lumed, pairing it with lumed hands in the same lume type keeps the whole face glowing together.

Customers praised this explorer-style dial for its "deep rich black enamel" and "flawless" finish. The blue BGW9A lume received consistent acclaim for lasting "all night" and excellent readability. Shoppers noted the quality "exceeded expectations" and surpasses competitors. The polished silver indices and minimal text design were highlighted as standout features.

  • High quality does not really do this dial justice.
  • The dial and hands exceeded my expectations.
  • Very deep rich black enamel color with optimal readability.

Amazing explorer style dial

I am very impressed by the quality of LA’s explorer style dial and hands. Blue lume is well applied. I have already made multiple purchases of other items. Quality is noticeably better than other mod vendors.

A beautiful and high quality dial, probably best out there for moding explore homage. The lume last longer than I expected and is easy to read anytime of day. I am very satisfied as always and will purchase again in the future.

Beautiful Dial

This is a beautiful dial, the black has a rich depth, and in the right light reflects the hands nicely. The silver areas are polished to perfection. The high polish initially made me think the dial was crooked, but it is just how the light plays off the triangle edged at certain angles. The lume lasts all night, and is easy to read anytime of day. "High quality" does not really do this dial justice.

Products that Exceed Expectations

I recently ordered the Terra Explorer V2 dial with BGW9 grade A and a set of mercedes hands with the same. From start to finish, the experience was a pleasure. The items were shipped the very next day, and communication was great! But the real joy was the quality of craftsmanship in these pieces. The dial and hands exceeded my expectations. The depth and beauty of these dials has to be seen in person. The finish was flawless on both the dial and the hands. I’m a customer for life.

Super Deep Black Enamel Polished Dial

Adriel's Terra Explorer v2 dial has a very deep rich black enamel color. I like that there is minimal text on the dial, just the LA logo and the word AUTOMATIC. Very high quality blue lume in hard to find BGW9A (with hands to match). Nice applied indices. 3-6-9 arabics are extra large and go all the way to dial edge for optimal readability. GREAT customer service from Adriel and I appreciate his hand written note in the package. Would 100% buy more parts from LA.

Great Explorer

I purchased the explorer dial, case and hands all from Lucius Atelier to make my own 36mm explorer. The quality is excellent and the packaging and postage were top notch as well. I used a regulated NH38 also from LA and after a week of wearing it non-stop it’s running at -5s. 100% happy with my explorer.

Excellent dial, best C3 lume

The dial is flawless. I am using it with original Seiko spb143 hands, and the lume on the dial matches the hands both in color and luminosity. Impressive 👍

Looks Amazing

Excellent quality dial! I completed the build for a customer with the 36mm Explorer Case, BGW9 Explorer dial, BGW9 Mercedes hands, and a regulated NH38 movement. Everything from Lucius Atelier. Liked it so much I'm going to build one for myself.

Terra v2 - 5/5

I love that the hour markers extend to the outer edge of the minute markers, a unique design choice! The 'Automatic' text is a bit narrow but that's just me trying hard to find a detail to comment on :) Overall, the dial design with its excellent lume is a great buy.

Exactly what I was looking for

I was pretty bummed I missed out on the first release of these dials, so I jumped at the chance to pick one up during this second release. The quality and attention to detail is fantastic. There are a few Explorer-style dials on the market, but I'm not too keen on all the other wording included on the dial. Not only does Lucius Atelier have a really sophisticated logo, they chose not clutter the dial with their name, an approximation of water-resistance, etc. They showed restraint and let the "3,6,9" really shine... I couldn't be happier! Paired the dial with some broad arrow hands because why not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I noticed on some of your other enamel dials a note that the logo can be removed. Is it possible to remove the logo on this dial? Thanks

Adriel from LuciusAtelier.com

Hi BK,

Thanks for expressing interest in our mod parts!

Yes, technically the logo on the Terra Explorer Dial v2 is removable — it’s adhered using micro-scale double-sided adhesive tape.

However, we do not offer logo removal or any dial modifications. Our watchmakers focus strictly on assembly. If you’d like to have the logo removed, I’d recommend reaching out to a modding specialist. You can find a list of experienced modders here: https://luciusatelier.com/pages/list-of-watch-modification-specialists

Hope this helps, and let me know if you have any other questions!

Best regards,

Ok, another question. I am looking at the Explorer case for a NH34 and sapphire back. I see a list of dials. However, I am interested in a dial with numbers and a date window at position 3. I do not see this as an available option. Specifically, I am looking for color options such as black, blue, or green. The black Terra Explorer dial is nice but it does not have a date window. As such, I am looking at other sources for the dial, same diameter (28.5mm). Hopefully the dial thickness and chapter ring fit (brushed silver) will not be a problem. Do you see this as a potential problem?

Adriel from LuciusAtelier.com

Hi Sean,

Thank you for expressing interest in our mod parts!

That’s not a problem at all. The standard Seiko dial spec is 28.5mm in diameter with a thickness of around 0.4mm, and most aftermarket dials made for NH movements follow this specification closely.

As long as the dial you choose adheres to this standard, it will fit properly with both the Explorer case and the NH34 movement, including compatibility with the brushed silver chapter ring.

Let me know if you need help sourcing or confirming a dial — happy to assist!

Best regards,
Adriel
