SKX013 GMT 38 [Ultra Thin Edition]

The SKX013 GMT 38 Pepsi, built out. The bezel turns both ways and still clicks — 120 of them, from two pill detents sunk into the case instead of a click spring.

The SKX013 GMT 38 is a 38mm travel watch case with a true bidirectional 24-hour bezel - and a bezel that still clicks. 11.26mm with the Ultra Thin solid caseback. Two colourways: Pepsi and Batman.

Here is the problem we ran into. A dive bezel turns one way, held by a click spring. The usual way to make it turn both ways is to bend that spring until it stops resisting in the other direction. It works, and the feel goes with it - the click gets vague, uneven, cheap. The other shortcut is to delete the click spring entirely, which gives you a bezel that spins like a bottle cap. Neither was acceptable. The clicks are half the reason you reach for the bezel at all.

So we re-engineered the bezel and the case together. There is no bezel click spring in this case. In its place, two spring-loaded pill detents sit in the case on opposite sides, buried beneath the bezel, indexing it from underneath. The result is a bidirectional 120-click bezel that clicks properly, evenly, in both directions - a GMT bezel you can actually use to track a second timezone, with the tactile feedback of a dive bezel. As far as we know, nobody else has built one this way.

It costs 0.40mm. Every caseback on the GMT 38 is exactly 0.40mm thicker than the matching caseback on our SKX013 Diver 38. Everything else carries over: 38mm diameter, 40mm across the crown guards, 46mm lug-to-lug, 20mm lugs, 316L steel, crown at 3 o'clock, and the modding ecosystem you already own.

Pepsi or Batman - which is right for you?

Same case, same engineering, same build options. The 24-hour ceramic insert is the only difference - and it sets the whole character of the watch. On both, the darker half covers the night hours (18 through 24 to 06) and the lighter half covers the day (06 to 18).

Pepsi - Blue & Red The colourway everyone recognises, and the one that has been getting harder to buy at any size, let alone 38mm. Loud in the right way. Choose it when the watch is meant to be the thing people ask about.
Batman - Black & Blue The quieter half of the pair. Black reads as a dive bezel until you look closely and find 24 hours on it. Choose it when you want the GMT function without announcing it.

Both colourways ship with the same options: three casebacks, and a cyclops sapphire crystal fitted as standard.

Each figure is exactly 0.40mm over the matching SKX013 Diver 38 caseback - the height the taller NH34 needs.

The crystal is not a choice here. A flat sapphire with a cyclops fitted as standard ships on all three casebacks, magnifying the date window at 3 o'clock. The NH34 this case is built for is a GMT with date, so the cyclops always has something to read.

What's in the box, what you'll add

In the box: the case body with the cyclops sapphire crystal pre-installed, the bezel and 24-hour ceramic insert pre-fitted and pre-aligned, and your chosen caseback. The detent mechanism is set during assembly - it is not something you fit at a kitchen table, which is exactly why it ships done.

You'll add to complete the watch: an SKX013-spec chapter ring (required - it seats the dial at the correct height), a crown (five SKX-style options), a 28.5mm GMT dial, an NH34, and a four-hand set including a GMT hand - hour, minute, second, and the 24-hour hand that reads against the bezel. Movement & compatibility

Movements - NH34 only. This case takes the NH34 and no other calibre. The case height was drawn around it: the NH34 stands 7.99mm, 0.40mm taller than the three-hand NH calibres, which is precisely the 0.40mm every caseback here carries over the SKX013 Diver 38. It must be a Type M NH34 - because the Ultra Thin profile leaves very tight clearance between the hands and the sapphire, Type L will not fit. Confirm your movement type before ordering, and keep the second hand under 12mm in length or use a second-hand cap. The SKX013 GMT 38 is recommended for experienced modders.

Dials & hands. Takes 28.5mm GMT dials - the 28.5mm standard is shared across the entire Lucius Atelier line, but the dial must carry a 24-hour track for the fourth hand to read against - and an NH34-compatible four-hand set including a GMT hand.

Bezel & insert. Dimensionally exclusive to this case, and mechanically unlike anything else we make. Standard SKX bezels and inserts will not fit, our Diver 38 bezel will not fit either, and this bezel will not fit a Diver 38. They ship pre-fitted; replacement parts come from us.
