Troposphere Pilot Dial v2 (Date @ 6H)

LIMITED EDITION · 100 pieces only. Once this run sells out, this dial is retired for good — never remade.

Troposphere Pilot Dial v2. Glossy Enamel Black. BGW9 Lume. Date at 6H.

A vintage-and-modern reading of the pilot dial — the classic Flieger Type A (Baumuster A) layout that dates to 1940. Version 2 carries a highly glossy black enamel face with oversized numerals and the characteristic two-dots-and-triangle marker at 12, set inside a printed outer minute track.

The numerals, markers and 12-symbol are filled with 100% Swiss Super-LumiNova® BGW9 Grade A — white-cream by day, a long blue glow by night.

This is the date @ 6H version — the date repositioned to 6 o'clock for those who value both a date and a symmetric layout. It requires a special-order NH35 with a 6H date wheel.

Drawn in the Flieger tradition.
Designed alongside our Pilot 34mm Ultra Thin Watch Case — its natural aesthetic partner. As a standard 28.5mm dial it fits any case built for that size.

Flieger Type A, reborn.
The 1940 Baumuster A cockpit layout: oversized numerals and the two-dots-and-triangle marker at 12, inside a printed minute track. Built for legibility first.

Glossy black enamel.
A deep gloss enamel face that throws the white, beveled indices into sharp relief.

BGW9 Grade A lume.
Numerals, markers and the 12-symbol are filled with Swiss Super-LumiNova® BGW9 Grade A — white by day, blue by night, up to 8 hours on a full charge.

Symmetric date — special NH35.
The date sits dead-centre at 6 o'clock for a symmetric face. It needs the special-order NH35 Date @ 6H; a standard NH35's date sits at 4:30 and won't line up.

Questions, Answered

Everything worth knowing before you build.

What's the design behind the Troposphere Pilot dial?

It's a modern take on the Flieger Type A (Baumuster A) pilot layout that dates to 1940 — oversized numerals and the characteristic two-dots-and-triangle marker at 12, set inside a printed minute track on a highly glossy black enamel face. The numerals, markers and 12-symbol are filled with 100% Swiss Super-LumiNova® BGW9 Grade A, so the face reads white-cream by day and glows blue at night. The dial is sterile — no logo — keeping it true to the military original.

Will this dial fit my case?

Yes, almost certainly. This is a standard Seiko mod dial — 28.5mm in diameter and 0.4mm thick, the industry-standard size — so it fits most, if not all, Seiko cases. Where a dial is shown with a particular case, that's an aesthetic pairing, not a fitment requirement. If you're unsure, the surest check is to remove your current dial and measure it with a vernier caliper.

Why does the dial have four legs?

The dial ships with four legs so it fits two different crown positions. Seiko movements come in 3 o'clock and 4 o'clock crown layouts, and the dial feet sit in different places for each. Clip off the two legs that don't match your crown position — two stay, two go.

How do I fit this to a 3 or 4 o'clock crown movement?

Remove the two legs that don't match your movement's crown position by clipping or gently twisting them off, then seat the dial as normal — two legs stay, two go. Alternatively, set the movement's crown to the 3 o'clock or 4 o'clock position, superimpose the dial on top, and see how the feet line up — whichever way it aligns, note which two legs need cutting and proceed from there. See the How To Mod tab for the full fitting walkthrough.

Are hands included with this dial?

No — dials and hands are sold separately. This listing is for the dial only; choose a matching handset to complete the build. If your dial is lumed, pairing it with lumed hands in the same lume type keeps the whole face glowing together.

Does this dial have lume?

Yes — the applied indices are filled with 100% Swiss Super-LumiNova® BGW9 Grade A: a cool blue glow by night, white by day, lasting up to eight hours on a full charge. For maximum glow, pair it with hands that also carry BGW9 so the whole face glows together (hands are sold separately).

BGW9 or C3 lume — what's the difference?

Both are premium-grade Swiss Super-LumiNova; the difference is the glow. BGW9 Grade A reads white by day and glows cool ice-blue at night — the modern, crisp choice. C3 Grade X1 reads pale green by day and glows vivid green — the classic tool-watch glow. Both charge fast and glow up to eight hours. Pick by the look you want, and match it to your hands for a cohesive build.

Are the markers applied or printed?

Applied. The hour markers are applied (raised) indices — raised metal on the dial surface, not flat print. The relief is what gives the face its depth and light play as the wrist moves.

Is this a limited edition / will it be restocked?

Yes, it's a limited edition, and it won't be restocked. Once the run sells out it's retired for good. The edition size is shown on the product page.

Which movement does this date-at-6 dial need?

This dial's date window sits at 6 o'clock, so it needs the special-order Seiko NH35 Date @ 6H. Two things are set for that position on this movement: the date wheel sits at the 6 o'clock aperture, and the numerals printed on the wheel are oriented to read upright through a 6 o'clock window. No other NH35 will work: a standard NH35's date sits at the 4:30 position with its numerals oriented for that spot, and won't line up under this dial's 6 o'clock window. Same NH35 base movement; the date position and numeral orientation are what differ.
