Blank Brass Dial - Sunburst brushed

Window
No. of Pieces

Blank Brass Dial. Raw Sunburst Brushed. 0.3mm Base. Your Canvas.

A blank slate for modders who finish their own dials. Raw brass, sunburst-brushed, with no markers, no logo and no coating — nothing on the face but the metal and whatever you bring to it.

It runs 0.3mm thick where a standard Seiko dial is 0.4mm. That extra tenth of a millimetre is deliberate: it leaves room to build up paint, transfers, enamel or texture without the finished surface fouling the hands. Most cases accept dials from 0.4mm to 0.6mm.

Because it ships as raw brass, the surface will oxidise over time — that is the nature of the material, and the reason it is sold as a base to be finished, not a dial to be worn as-is.

A 28.5mm base for any build.
As a standard 28.5mm dial it fits any case built for that size. Choose No Date, Date or Day-Date at purchase, clip the legs to suit your crown position, and finish the face however your project demands.

A blank canvas.
Raw brass with no printing, no markers and no logo — the dial equivalent of a primed panel. Paint it, print it, patina it, or leave it raw and let the brass age.

0.3mm — thinner on purpose.
Standard Seiko dials are 0.4mm; this is 0.3mm. The extra height gives your finish room to sit proud of the surface without crowding the hands.

Sunburst brushed for adhesion.
The brushed sunburst grain gives paint and lacquer something to key into — a far better bond than a smooth, sealed blank.

Four legs, both crowns.
Four dial legs as supplied — clip two to suit your case. One dial works for both 3 o'clock and 4 o'clock crown builds.

Heads up — a dial is one part of the build

Finishing. This is a raw base, not a finished dial — plan to paint, print or coat the face before wearing, and expect bare brass to oxidise until you seal it.

Hands. A finished dial still needs a matching set of hands to tell time. Browse our Watch Hands collection and pick a set that suits the face you create.

Movement. Pair with any compatible Seiko NH caliber — NH35, NH36 or NH38, plus the wider 7S / 4R / NE / NH family. Match the date layout to the cutout you choose: no date, date, or day-date.

Questions, Answered

Everything worth knowing before you build.

What exactly is a blank brass dial, and can I wear it as-is?

It's a raw brass dial base with no markers, no logo and no coating — a blank canvas for modders who finish their own dials. It's meant to be painted, printed, enamelled or patinated, not worn raw: bare brass oxidises over time, and the sunburst-brushed surface is there to give your paint or lacquer something to key into. Finish and seal the face before building it into a watch.

How thick is the blank brass dial?

0.3mm, where a standard Seiko dial is 0.4mm. The extra tenth of a millimetre is deliberate — it leaves room to build up paint, transfers or texture without the finished surface fouling the hands. Most cases accept dials from 0.4mm to 0.6mm, so you have headroom to work with.

Will this dial fit my case?

Yes, almost certainly. This is a standard Seiko mod dial — 28.5mm in diameter and 0.4mm thick, the industry-standard size — so it fits most, if not all, Seiko cases. Where a dial is shown with a particular case, that's an aesthetic pairing, not a fitment requirement. If you're unsure, the surest check is to remove your current dial and measure it with a vernier caliper.

Why does the dial have four legs?

The dial ships with four legs so it fits two different crown positions. Seiko movements come in 3 o'clock and 4 o'clock crown layouts, and the dial feet sit in different places for each. Clip off the two legs that don't match your crown position — two stay, two go.

How do I fit this to a 3 or 4 o'clock crown movement?

Remove the two legs that don't match your movement's crown position by clipping or gently twisting them off, then seat the dial as normal — two legs stay, two go. Alternatively, set the movement's crown to the 3 o'clock or 4 o'clock position, superimpose the dial on top, and see how the feet line up — whichever way it aligns, note which two legs need cutting and proceed from there. See the How To Mod tab for the full fitting walkthrough.

Can I customise this dial?

Yes — the blank, sterile surface is made for it. Modders use it as a base for printed or hand-applied markers, custom logos, and designs; the smooth, even face gives a clean starting surface. How well a given paint, ink, or transfer bonds depends on your own materials and technique, so test your method before committing to the final dial.

Does this dial have any markers?

No — it's a fully sterile dial. No applied or printed hour indices, no numerals, no minute track, no logo, and no "Automatic" text — just a clean, uninterrupted surface. Your choice of hands does the timekeeping, and the blank face also makes an ideal base for your own design.

Does this dial have lume?

No — this dial carries no lume. If you want the watch to glow in the dark, pair it with a set of lumed hands; the glow then comes from the hands rather than the dial face.

Which movement does this dial need?

This is a no-date dial, so a no-date caliber is cleanest — the NH38 (the NH70, NH71 and NH72 fit too). It also runs on a date caliber like the NH35 or NH36, and on the wider Seiko/TMI family (7S26, 7S36, 4R15, 4R35, 6R15, NE15, NH25, NH26); the date wheel just turns unseen behind the blank dial. In fact, many modders fit an NH35 or NH36 on purpose to future-proof the build — that way they can later swap to a date or day-date dial without changing the movement. One thing to expect if you do: the crown keeps its date-setting position, so you'll feel it click into that detent when you pull the crown partway out — but with no date window, nothing changes on the dial face.

Are hands included with this dial?

No — dials and hands are sold separately. This listing is for the dial only; choose a matching handset to complete the build. If your dial is lumed, pairing it with lumed hands in the same lume type keeps the whole face glowing together.

Is this a limited edition / will it be restocked?

No — unlike our numbered limited-edition dials, this is a core staple: an open-run dial we keep in regular stock and restock as needed. There's no fixed edition size and no risk of it being retired after a single run.
